How to Spot Fake Cam Promotions
A promotion is worth considering only after you can trace it to the platform offering it. A familiar logo, a polished message, or a countdown is not proof. Use this verification sequence before entering account details or paying.
Check the route, then the terms
- Open your existing bookmark or type the platform's known domain yourself. Do not sign in through a message, QR code, shortened link, or search advert merely because it mentions the offer.
- Look for the promotion inside the official account or checkout. Compare the exact offer wording, eligibility, currency, expiry and required purchase. If it is absent, ask official support whether it applies to your account.
- Inspect the payment destination. An unfamiliar processor needs an explanation from the platform, not reassurance from the person sending the link. A padlock alone does not establish that a seller is genuine.
- Save the terms and final checkout total before authorizing anything. Stop if the terms change between the banner and payment screen.
Recognize pressure without overdiagnosing
The NCSC's scam guidance identifies urgency, authority and scarcity as common pressure tactics and recommends contacting an organization through independently obtained details. A deadline alone does not prove fraud; a demand for your password, login code or off-platform transfer is reason to stop.
If you already interacted
Record the sender, destination URL and transaction reference without publishing private details. Report the message through the platform's official channel. If you entered a reused password, change it on the real site and other affected accounts; review active sessions. If money moved, contact your payment provider promptly and describe what happened accurately.
Verification note: Offer URL: ____; official confirmation: ____; eligibility: ____; payable total: ____; decision: proceed / wait / reject. This is a suggested screening process, not a guarantee that a promotion is safe.
